SHUMAN DREAMS (Poetry of Sound) |

|
When I was a teenager, a blind boy asked me to describe what I saw when I looked at a fireworks display. I don't remember my answer, but I have never forgotten the question. I think I resorted to synesthesia.
In 1967 I stumbled across an aspect of language. I was struck by the extraordinary power of sound weaving together with thought. Ever since then, I have been trying to share what I saw/heard/felt/sensed. I have often felt like someone trying to describe color with a black and white language. This web site is devoted to another such effort to share.
shumandreams.info consists of two things: 1) a short attempt at presenting a theory of sound and language, and 2) a long demonstration. The demonstration takes the form of a performance piece called Harmony. Among other things, writing Harmony has helped me cope with the death of my wife, Sandy.
